What exactly is a dental health check?
Your dental health check at Floss and Smile is key to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Think of it as an MOT for your teeth!
During your routine dental health check we will:
- Go through any underlying medical conditions you may have and explain how these may affect your mouth and teeth, including side effects of any medication you are using
- Screen for mouth cancer, including a thorough check of the health of your tongue, cheeks and palate
- Check your gums and your teeth to ensure there are no underlying problems
- Check all existing fillings for decay and leaks
- Use an intra-oral camera to show you photos of any concerns we have, so you can see what we see (if you want to!)
- Take any X-rays needed to diagnose any problems that are not visible to the naked eye e.g. beneath a filling, between teeth, the bone and supportive structures
- Assess your teeth for grinding or clenching, to try to prevent or treat headaches, migraines and shoulder and neck pain.
- Check the TMJ joint you use to open and close your mouth and to chew with
- Give you a bespoke treatment plan with preventative oral health advice
- Show you the right techniques to help you brush on and between your teeth correctly
- Answer any questions or concerns you may have about your gums, teeth and smile.
Why is a dental health check important?
Getting a dental health check up is crucial for keeping your smile bright and healthy. Our dental health checks usually take place every year and allow your dentist to thoroughly check your teeth and gums.
These visits help catch any issues early, from cavities to gum disease, saving you from more serious problems down the road. Plus, a check-up is a great time to ask questions and get personalised advice on taking care of your teeth. It's all about maintaining that confident, pain-free smile you deserve!
